Writing Books

My Can You Find My Love? children’s series.

If you have never written a book but desire to, it is easier than you think. But first, you must write. I know, many of you have cringed by now. Books don’t just happen. You must write. Perhaps your desire to write keeps emerging, you fear all the work, you fear the mental strain, you fear it won’t be any good so you push your desire back down into the other non-manifested desires you have. Books are not written all at once. Books are written slowly over time, over thought development, over much working the other side of your ideas. Where is your endurance, fortitude, patience? Let me tell you, patience is not my forte yet I have just finished my 25th book (Eternal) and am waiting for my readers to finish my 26th (Still) and started on my 27th . A do not have anything more special than you. I simply follow my desire to write. I get out of my way.

A student of mine wanted, with aching desire, to write a book about her father. After hearing her despondent attitude for months about how she could never write such a thing, I took a piece of paper from my journal, handed her a pen and told her to write just one solitary word that came to mind when she thought of her father. An hour later, as we were finishing our lunches, I handed her my pen and told her to write another word.

The next day I called her and told her to write a word every hour, just one word. By the end of the week she had a list of words. I then instructed her to take each word and write one sentence. By the end of the month she no longer needed my calls. She was on her way to writing about her father.

Day by day, little by little, let your mind flow into your ideas until your words begin to flow into something. Then you can edit it to fit into your vision. You can do this. I am here to tell you, you can do this.

Keep the pen moving,

Jan

I like simplicity. It makes life more beautiful. But whether life is simple or complicated, I find that when I let my pen free-write what I am thinking, feeling and doing I get a deeper understanding and wisdom of the life I am living. As a licensed clinical social worker of 30 plus years, I use writing with clients to help them center their lives with this valuable tool. Best of all, writing has allowed me to find my creative muse which I use in every area of my life.
